(CMP-Ideal filling materials in the field of paintings and coatings)

CMP ( size range from 1µm to 15µm,major components are SiO2 and Al2O3), is a multifunctional inorganic filler. CMP is calcined at 1250 C° high temperature, and completely porcelainized in the form of quartz and mullite phase. Compared with other natural mineral powder fillers, CMP possesses higher hardness (Mohs hardness 7), more stable physical and chemical properties, with excellent characteristics of abrasion resistance, acid and alkali resistance, weather resistance, high temperature resistance. CMP can be used as a strengthening filler to improve the mechanical properties of materials in the fields of coatings, rubber, ink, 3D printing, paper, building materials (such as waterproof glue, putty powder, fly powder, artificial stone) etc .

1. Properties of CMP:

1). Stable color. The whiteness of CMP is above 88 degrees。 It will not fade over time. In line with the whiteness requirements of most products, also CMP’s good coloring can reduce the amount of toner material consumption.

2). Inertia: CMP has been fully porcelainized, in the form of quartz and mullite phase. It has the features of excellent durability, weather resistance, corrosion resistance, acid and alkali resistance. Its physical/chemical properties are very stable, no surface charge, no chemical reaction. Compared with other fillers, it will never be aging and carbonation.

3) Even and fine structure: CMP is in the shape of needle flake that enhances the covering ability of coating, with higher solid content, and lower VOC.

3. The application of CMP in paintings and coatings industries:

1). Civil construction paintings: CMP can improve adsorption, weather tolerance, durability, scrubbing resistance, corrosion resistance and high temperature performance of paintings. Also CMP can replace part of titanium dioxide, eliminate the optical flocculation phenomenon caused by the use of titanium dioxide, and can greatly reduce the cost.

2). Solid (powder)industrial coatings: CMP can reduce volatile organic compounds (VOC), improve heat resistance, gloss controlling, hardness, wear resistance, and sprayability of paintings.

3). Soluble industrial paintings: CMP can increase the soluble solid content, reduce membrane permeability of paintings, and enhance paintings’ corrosion resistance, hardness, wear resistance, and gloss controlling.

4). Coil coating: CMP improves flexibility, corrosion resistance, gloss controlling, high solid content, and cost controlling of coatings.

5). Primer: CMP can enhance coatings’ performance of salt spray resistance, high temperature/chemical resistance, increase solid content, and reduce costs.
